What I'm Watching
The James Webb Telescope is an incredibly exciting step forward in space exploration. Who better to hear about it from than the Senior Project Scientist for the entire project.
I just finished watching the first season of The Wilds, and can't wait for another season to come out. One part Coming-Of-Age, one part Survival Thriller, The Wilds puts a group of teen girls on a deserted island after their airplane goes down on their way to a girls-only retreat. I don't want to spoil anything, so all I'll say is it's worth watching.
What I'm Reading
It may be true that people are treating you unfairly, or that it wasn’t your fault, or that life in general is just hard, but once a non-reversible event has occurred, you can do one of two things: fight it or harmonize with it. And if you can’t change the world, the only way to harmonize with it is to change your reaction: to create goodness by doing the virtuous thing.
I've spent a bunch of time recently reading about Stoicism. I don't consider myself a spiritual or religious person, nor have I really been interested in philosophy, but Stoicism has drawn my attention over the pandemic. I appreciate that it is grounded in logic and observing the natural world around you, and I'd like to think that Stoicism and meditation has helped me get through extended periods of isolation.
You're the least important person in the room — until you change that with results.
I said I was on a Stoicism kick, didn't I? Ryan Holiday's book "Ego Is The Enemy" is a clear, well-written, modern interpretation of Stoicism. I recently finished the chapter "Follow The Canvas Path", where he discusses the value of internships and entry-level positions to help build those above you.
What I'm Listening To
I listened to some of the original Black Eyed Peas again this week, and forgot how good some of their early albums are. Amazing hip-hop beats.
Atmospheric, chill electronica is a great Sunday morning listen, just sayin'. Put it on in the background, grab a book and a cup of tea, and curl up for an hour. You won't regret it.
